Retro anime thread - bow down to your 80s/90s/00s indie video distributor overlords
My first anime was Street Fighter II V in a volume 4 VHS tape by Manga Video
Then I wound up with Vampire Hunter D from Urban Vision???
My mom bought us the first Pokemon film on tape but I scoffed.
No wonder I'm like this now
Talk about your favorites here

Vampire Hunter D is still peak anime... both of them.
As for me, here are some of my favorites:
Bubblegum Crisis - goofy plot, ridiculous characters... and the best art in anime. ever.... also, they best soundtrack ever.
Dirty Pair - The most important anime
Slayers... it's like playing D&D with your friends. I miss insane shenanigans like that.
Ruin Explorers is also good.
For more serious stuff:
Ghost in the Shell 1995 is my favorite movie
Iria: Zeiram the Animation has awesome art and world-building
I could probably list 100 more. The best anime came from the 80s and 90s.

Bubblegum Crisis just left me wanting to watch GitS '95 again, lol. I only recently watched the Dirty Pair Flash OVA, still have more to go but i loved that one. Zeiram is another of my favorites, i remembered what you said about it not overexplaining itself and taking you along for a ride

It should go without saying that any anime pre-80s is open for discussion.
Recently started Lupin the 3rd (and Yu Yu Hakusho but that's beside the point). Really like the original Tiger Mask and Kinnikuman, need more wrestling anime if anyone knows any

Dirty Pair Flash was fun... but the og art, animation, and nonsense are on another level. I've never had to pause an anime to laugh as many times. I'm stealing somebody's thumbnail I think, but this is the level of insanity I'm talking about:

Now I know which anime to put on when I'm babysitting my partner's cat. Added to library.
Should I watch Crusher Joe in addition?

I actually haven't seen Crusher Joe, but there isn't any crossover as far as I know. They are just same writer, same universe. So, maybe you could check it out if you like the series.

I've watched a bunch of anime from the 80s and 90s. Can't say that there are any favorites on this list, but most of them are very good.
