Super Aleste (Space Megaforce in the US) and MUSHA Aleste (M.U.S.H.A in the US) are great shmups for the SNES and Mega Drive respectively, and worth playing.

While not a hidden gem, Thunder Force IV on the mega drive has some of the best heavy metal tunes of the FM Synth era and should be mentioned on that alone.
