Star Fox (2026)

Post by ravanal »

So, let's have a discussion about a modern game for once, and what better thing to start with than a game that was announced just yesterday, Star Fox. For those who didn't see the news yesterday, a Nintendo Direct dropped out of nowhere for a "new" Star Fox game, a complete big-budget remake and retelling of Star Fox 64, which was already a retelling of the original SF for the SNES.

So, for like, the fifth time, we're going to revisit the SF64 story, though they've shown that a whole lot more is going to be shown. For once, we can see James McCloud in action in the intro cutscene.

Another topic of discussion was the new design of the main characters. I saw a lot of divided opinions, some people preferred the more cartoonish style from the old games/Smash Ultimate designs, while others are liking the new looks.

Personally, I dig it. Not sure about everyone else here.
I was more interested in some gameplay aspects imo, like how the multiplayer mode comes with Domination and Capture the Flag modes, and also comes with mouse support, turning the game into like a rail shooter version of Descent or the old Star Wars arcade games.

What do you think about what they showed yesterday? For me, I'm just cautiously optimistic about what I saw.

I've seen a lot of hate directed toward the new visual design but I like it, quite a lot! I've also never played any of the Star Fox games yet, so it's not my prerogative to get upset about the first game getting remade or the series being rebooted. I am tentatively interested.

My problem is just that I feel bad about the prospect of giving Nintendo money. No judgment against anyone that buys Nintendo stuff, I just feel like I can't in good conscience. It's inconvenient because they've been pushing some really cool stuff lately, like that new Tomodachi Life game, but I'll live.

First off... looks kinda awesome. The motion capture is fun. I'm not sure how I feel about the graphics. I almost think it would have worked better for a Rogue Squadron remake, but I don't care all that much. It's fine.

This is where I don't know how to feel because Nintendo is extremely evil at a corporate level (and litigious), but extremely awesome at a creative level. They don't fire their entire staff in between every major launch... they have people working there for life. They foster creativity and try new things. They take risks, etc... and they focus on fun. So, I generally don't buy their stuff first-hand... also... what's the state of Switch 2 emulation? (◕‿◕)

It looks fine. I never really got in to Star Fox, though I loved playing as Fox in the Smash games...maybe I'll give one of the older Star Fox games a shot?

I think the new character models are fine, except for Fox's feet idk why but they just look odd to me. This new game being a remake of Star Fox 64 definitely feels lazy but that's not entirely unexpected from Nintendo. It seems like they're constantly flipping between trying to be innovative and just rehashing previous games and properties. I was never really into Star Fox though so my opinion doesn't mean much. It's definitely not a title that would get me to buy a Switch 2.

Well, so far there are only proof of concepts going around some circles but don't get too excited, most of it its just vibe coded stuff, HOWEVER....

Preservation and Switch 2 cartridge dumping has been a thing for a few months now, so we might be seeing something in the near future. (◕‿◕)

Id have preferred the series have died with zero. Theres no reason for this game to exist.

there was an intriguing deal this one deal a page posted the other day about getting $200 nintendo eshop cards off newegg for only $170 but it sold out pretty quickly when they posted it, people commented it had been going for weeks and weeks. I didn't even know you could order consoles via nintendo giftcards, nonetheless with free shipping.

Loved the hell out of Starfox 64 as a kid, I actually grew up on mostly nintendo stuff with the snes and n64 when I was little, ended up getting more into the ps2 as a teen though. Blew my mind when I found out and learned the different paths and stuff in SF64, I played it so much and did like every path/possible way through the game. I remember that toxic planet being a bit eerie as a kid after just being on the previous pristine ocean planet right before

I've had a switch v2 for a few years, the switch game parties I thought I'd have with friends/family never ended up happening, I got Borderlands 1,2 and pre sequel super cheap a few years ago, also diablo 2 hd and diablo 3 and monopoly with some dlc expansion lol. Got the joycons, a couple cheapo rock candy wired controllers, and a surprisingly decent wireless see-through dark blue nyko wireless one that's modeled after the xbox controller. I was actually going to trade the system and things in but a couple months ago last year the gamestop went out of business in my town after like over 21 years, was kinda sad since marketplace here will make you lose braincells with flakers and crackheads and everything inbetween lol. If you caught them when deals were going on you could sometimes get cash same as store credit value. I've mostly mained pc since 2012, but, from time to time get into the consoles for periods.

with my backlog on pc/emulator already being so bad, I could never personally justify many switch games though since they seem to never drop in price or if they do very very little. I will say, with the state of the AAA industry, I'd take most switch/switch 2 stuff over most of the bs out these days.... indie stuff on pc is largely what gives me hope for the industry as a whole
