What games are you excited for?

The technological jump from 1990 to 1992 was bigger than the jump from 2010 to the present day... So, it's all modern.

What games are you excited for?

Post by Casey »

We've talked quite a bit about the classics in this forum so far, so let's chat about some upcoming stuff! What upcoming games are you most excited for?

I've got tons of these, but the first that comes to mind is Paralives, a life simulator that feels like what I've wanted out of a Sims sequel for over a decade... Here's the steam store page:

Paralives looks crazy... the amount of work that must have taken. If it turns out to be good, it could be really good. Added that to the wishlist. So, here is my wishlist for stuff coming soon. I plan to get these on GOG if I can, but Steam is easier to use when it comes to the wishlists.

| Ardenfall on Steam
The graphics are a bit bubbly, but they look more minimal, which is cool. It gives me slight Morrowind vibes... it just looks unique. So, hopefully it'll be good.

| Legends of Amberland III: The Crimson Tower on Steam
I loved the first one and missed the second... oops. I need to catch up. It's basically a more colorful dungeon crawling game that feels like Eye of the Beholder 2 or something... The quality of life features they added make it a bit difficult to go back.
▬▬ι══════ﺤ

| Metropolis 1998 on Steam
This is a city builder, but the graphics take me back to Roller Coaster Tycoon-era games... can't wait.
▬▬ι══════ﺤ

| ALARIC on Steam
It's a boomer shooter... with metroidvania elements... and vibes.
▬▬ι══════ﺤ

| Nivalis on Steam
I'm not huge on management sims... but look at it!

@Casey I really hope Paralives is good! I've been keeping an eye on it for a while and I'm excited to see someone else take a swing at the life sim genre. It was kind of sad when Life By You was cancelled but after seeing how Cities Skylines 2 has gone it might be for the best that it was never released.

@ward Ardenfall and Metropolis 1998 are both on my wish list too! Ardenfall looks like it might be able to capture a bit of that Elder Scrolls feeling. Metropolis 1998 definitely reminds me of the older Sim City games and I hope it leans more on the management side than Cities Skylines did. CS was fun to design a city, but compared to like SimCity 3k (the one I played the most of) it never felt like I was actually a mayor.

World of Anterra is cool looking pixel art RPG with an open world and party based tactics combat.

This one already came out, but it was pretty recently so I'm gonna say it still counts lol. Escape from Ever After is Paper Mario styled RPG where storybook characters fight a giant corporation

I wishlist a ton of games on Steam, so it's hard not to flood the thread with dozens of links, but I put in the effort to trim it down to... six, for now.

.45 PARABELLUM BLOODHOUND is an action-RPG that reminds me a lot of games like Signalis, Parasite Eve II, and Final Fantasy VII. I don't know a ton about the game but I love its style and I have a feeling it'll be something special.

500 CALIBER CONTRACTZ is a Super Mario 64-inspired platformer with immaculate mid-2000's aesthetics. It's super stylish and charming! I would've died to get a game like this back in 2007.

ONTOS is a horror game by the developers of the Amnesia series and SOMA, and has been described as being a spiritual successor to SOMA. The trailer is pretty bleak and shocking, but I love that kind of thing in horror games.

OTHER: Her Loving Embrace is an Earthbound-inspired RPG where combat is played out through platform-fighting sections. I love the pixel art here, and the combat looks super fun!

DoubleShake is a spiritual successor to Mischief Makers, with some other clear influences being games like Tomba! and Klonoa. I love Treasure games and anything we get nowadays that's evocative of Treasure is very easy to sell me on.

Prove You're Human is a horror game by the developers of 1000xRESIST, about an AI that yearns to be human. It's a game about Captchas except it's probably going to make me cry.

@Virtua Wug If you liked Parasite Eve you might also be interested in Parasite Mutant. It's almost an exact copy of those games

I'm super excited to play Car Park Capital. I love the styling (reminds me of Roller Coaster Tycoon) and the theme. As a strong advocate of mass transit and walk able places I find the commentary and premise hilarious.

The swarm is supreme! Go home, city slicker.

For a few that aren't actually out yet, Beta Decay looks extremely intriguing if they're able to realize their vision of it, a bunch of things combined into one, mech warrior with helldivers 2, tarkov, kenshi even lol. Was hooked since I saw it on youtube awhile back

Road to Vostok just came out, single player offline Tarkov/DayZ vibes, apparently some good mods out for it already

Terminator Survivors, was a bit more hype for it when it was going to be co op but they changed it to single player only

Co op spooky game

there's a couple things already out for awhile on my wishlist that seemed really intriguing,

retro graphics top down Tarkov basically Zero Sievert

Mycopunk, umm.... a co op shooty shooty game that looks insane? The demo was fun lol.

I could go on and on haha I won't make this tooooooo super long :P I've acquired a large wishlist over time, I've curated the first ~150 things in it, either no $$$ at the time to get a bunch, or, can't justify it with a huge backlog lol.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was just announced so it's going on the wishlist! I really liked the first 2 games so hopefully this one will just continue to improve on those.
