Tokusatsu thread

Post by chiefterror »

Live action sci-fi/fantasy/superhero shows and films from Japan. Aka stuff like:

Ultraman
Image

Kamen Rider
Image

Super Sentai (y'know, the footage that Haim Saban and co. ripped off for years to make Power Rangers! Fuck that shit, watch this instead!)
Image

Garo
Image

Wingman (based on a manga/anime)

and, like my avatar, Choujinki Metaruda, from Toei's "Metal Hero" franchise

Whatever you love, or think we should watch, talk about it here!

I for one am not gonna miss Super Sentai since Toei just recently decided Gozyuger is the last one (for now); Sentai is the only other franchise from Toei that didn't yet get a decades-long break like Kamen Rider or Metal Heroes did. Hasbro's de-incentivization of creating new Power Rangers seasons doesn't help it's case. It's only right, 49 seasons is enough and Gozyuger under-delivered. Project RED (Sentai's replacement) is basically just a Metal Heroes reboot and I'm far more excited for the prospect of a future Juukou B-Fighter remake.

What's Juukou B-Fighter?

Oh nothin, just where Beetleborgs came from.

The sequel season, B-Fighter Kabuto, is pretty gnarly as well.

In the early 2000s, Power Rangers was shown on TV, I won't say that I liked it, but I was a kid and it was funny.

HELL YEAH TOKU.

I often hang out with my best bud and watch a ton of whatever Tokusatsu show or movie we have at hand, torrented or whatever that has been released in the west recently.

These are some of the stuff we have watched recently:

To not fill the thread with just images, i'm gonna list other stuff

Kamen Rider Ains with Girls Remix
Mechanical Violator Hakaider
Kamen Rider The Next
Cutie Honey The Live

We both grew up watching these type of shows, big reason why we both have been friends for 14 years now, between these and our shared love for Godzilla and Horror films.

Dude... woah. That is the giant robo show made just for me

Also, one of those girls in Vanny Knights looks like a joshi pro-wrestler that I forgot the name of (far right)?

Your friend sounds really cool.

Oop, before you watch it i must tell you that Zaborgar is not a giant robo, but a human-sized one, and its also more a comedy, parodying showa era toku tropes. Still, i had a blast watching it, and its one that has gotten a western release, you still can get a DVD from amazon.

As for that girl (Rie Mashiko), i don't think she was ever a pro-wrestler, most wikis describe her acting and modeling jobs instead.
