Been working on cleaning up this bit of digital are for an avatar and signature... its taken much longer than I was expecting, partially because I have been ill. There really should be some kind of AI tool for this job....

Today I'm working on world building for a writing project again after watching a lecture on world building from Robert Kurvitz, who was one of the writers for Disco Elysium.
Here's a link to the talk, if anyone is curious.

@Casey Ooo, I'll have to check this out! I'd love to start worldbuilding and I think getting an idea of how DE's world was built will be good inspiration.
April is a busy month, as I'm overhauling my home setup to be more compact and to provide more services that I need.
Currently working on downsizing from a Supermicro 2U rack server to a mini custom NAS. Along with this, I'm planning out my home network at our new place. Looking to pick up a spool of CAT5/6 cabling and an RJ45 crimp tool, since I have a bunch of RJ45 connectors already.
Both the NAS and the rack server are set up with Proxmox and there's a part of me that wants to start from scratch, but I know that's a bad idea, and it's easy enough to transfer VMs/CTs between the two.
Looking to set up Pihole to get some adblocking going for the house. I'm planning on setting up a router VM to handle traffic, set up a firewall, and also provide a VPN connection to my home network, especially for accessing my couch gaming PC from anywhere. Reverse proxy feels a bit too risky for that.
Since I retired my daily driver desktop and have it riding out its glory days as a couch gaming PC, I'm excited to buy either a Thinkpad or an HP Elitebook this month to act as my daily driver.
I was using a mid-2012 Macbook Air that I recently swapped the motherboard out after spilling water on it, but now it overheats like crazy and the Wifi card seems to be busted. I haven't done extensive troubleshooting on this, but I didn't think to save the previous board or wifi card, and I feel like I've already spent too long working on this laptop, so it'll sit dormant for a while as an unreliable backup for a rainy day.
Taking time to actually sit down and do vimtutor. I've been using vim with fairly basic knowledge, so I'm excited to get a better understanding of how to manipulate text within vim. Even with the little knowledge I have, I'd rather use it over any other text editor out there.

There are plenty of reasons to not like/use systemd but support for other init systems is so fractured and nonstandard that it's not worth giving energy to
How could I have ever let myself get away with being so confidently wrong

So with my trip being over and starting a new job right around the corner I have a massive list of todos I'm behind on from being on the road for the last four years.
First up on that list is getting my truck running better as I'm going to be relying on it heavily over the next few months to get gardening supplies, remodeling materials, and other bulky things to help save on shipping costs.
Right now it runs pretty rough when idling, I'm suspecting it's a vacuum issue so I have a smoke machine on the way to troubleshoot it. While I wait I'm going to super clean the engine bay so I don't get all funky while I'm digging around in there.

Well cleaning the engine may have fixed the weird idling issue. After getting it all tidied it and the gunk off it runs a lot better. Gonna take it for a test drive after I get it some new shoes.

At least that may be all it was with the truck. I love thinking there's something horrendously wrong with my car, but only to find out it's a simpler fix and all the money I may have saved is still there.

The Macbook Air that I adopted from my fiancee was working fine for a while until Wifi speeds became abysmally slow when this hadn't been the case. I wasn't really sure what it could be, until I opened it up and decided to check out the Wifi card.
Things made a lot more sense; it was significantly worse before this picture since I had cleaned it up with some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush, but it was still a mystery how it had gotten this bad. I think some combination of using my laptop on the bed a lot, thermal-based fan control requiring an extra package that wasn't installed, and bad thermal paste lead to excessive heat and caused a bit of melting. Fixing those issues made increased the speed marginally, but images and videos are still a no-go. Using a crappy Wifi adapter to hold me over while I save up for a proper laptop.
