The only problem with FF1 is I grew up playing it so I know the whole game by memory and not actually trying to read anything lmao If time permits I try to pick random titles from my library. I discovered I enjoy point and clicks that way (randomly picking what sounds interesting)
I started playing FF8 last year as part of a fediverse game club. If I remember correctly I made it through the first 2 disks and it was interesting. I've never gotten into final fantasy so that was my introduction to the series and it didn't exactly leave me dying to check out the rest lol

FF8 is one of the games in the main line series that kind of splits the whole FF community. Either love it or hate it so I get if it didn't get it if you aren't interested in the others lol All I can say is if you like classic JRPG's you may enjoy them up until 10. None are related. What fediverse game club was that that had FF8?

I decided to replay FF1 in japanese actually because of a wanikani language learning group kind of thing.

If you search #VideoGameClub you should be able to find it. It's ran by a guy who puts up a poll each month. There definitely have been less people participating than a couple years ago so you probably won't see too many posts at the moment.

From what I played of FF8 it wasn't a bad game, besides the menus, but I just thought that the story was kind of all over the place and I found the junction system to be tedious especially early on when it kept switching your party around.

I 10000000% agree with the tedius comment for the junction system. The biggest reason i'm able to stomach it now as an adult is the remake has a x3 speed option. I wouldn't be able to do it without that feature. I wish all remakes/remasters for old games had that built in option available. The grind is too much at times.

Yeah I definitely used the speed boost button quite a bit. You can only sit through those summon animations so many times lol

lollllllll man the memories with FF8... I got to the end of the 3rd disc(iirc...) and couldn't beat a boss and kinda just left it way back as a young teen. I kept doing that thing where you hold select and mash square a ton to boost up the summoning animations attack power LMAO, then I found out focusing mainly on buffed up summons wasn't the best strat apparently, so my whole entire "build" for the entire game was screwed

Currently playing (among other things such as bg3) 'The Drifter'

...it's one of those new, retro-style point-and-click adventure games with extra gritty stuff added. I have not finished the game yet, but it's interesting enough so far. And the australian accents are entertaining too.

The voice acting and some of the situations in this are awesome. Also, the pixel art lighting was done by hand... all the lightning flashes, light flickers, etc... all drawn and animated... kinda breaks my brain.

They created a toolset for making games like this and I wish I had used it, but I am too far into the game with a more generalized toolset. If I had infinite money, I'd pay them to port it to Godot.
