Which version is that based on? Is it a port of the PC-98 version?

I've played this through a few times, and if you remember the early days of thee web, this game NAILS the aesthetic. Unfortunately the game is rather short and can be finished in a few hours. Pick it up when its on sale.

Yeah, Windows 32bit version is basically PC-98 with fan translation. Potential problems are Win10 or Win11 compatibility if you want to play on new OS and Windows MIDI renditions of the original PC-98 music.

Ive got it setup in a PC-98 emulator and it runs fine. Great game.

What does it do to the music? I have only played Rusty on the PC-98 emulator (project neko kai I think?) and the music sounded ok, but I was mostly just goofing off the the gameplay. The Yamaha OPNA is my favorite chip ever... better than OPL3. I feel like we got robbed. I can't find a good vst to make music like Umemoto... I might try using OPL3 and a PSG generator at the same time to see how that goes.

Also, want to second @skullmeat's suggestion. Hypnospace Outlaw is... an experience... only don't do what I did. I played this in bed on my steam deck. I mapped keyboard keys to a bunch of different buttons and used the analog as my mouse cursor (I hate touchpads)... and it was wonky as hell. I should have played it with a mouse.

I haven't gotten my hands on a real machine to compare (Id sell my left nut for one with the specs I want) but I didnt hear anything that was obviously wrong.

Its also worth noting that there was in fact a midi controller for the PC-98 but they can be somewhat difficult to find. If you can find one that might be your best option.

Default MIDI for Windows is like 22 kHz, mono - really bad. PC-98 version is much much better soundwise. You can download unofficial patch to replace the General MIDI soundtrack with lossless rips from the PC-98 original ( 44.1 kHz Stereo Lossless ).

I'm currently mostly playing FF8 via GOG to destress. Also playing the original Final Fantasy in Japanese (to help with language learning). The only problem with FF1 is I grew up playing it so I know the whole game by memory and not actually trying to read anything lmao If time permits I try to pick random titles from my library. I discovered I enjoy point and clicks that way (randomly picking what sounds interesting)

Finally got around to picking up RE9. God, Leon is so cool. I'm really loving the blend of all the different gameplay elements from the series; Grace's sections take on a slower-paced horror-first atmosphere reminiscent of RE7, and you get the typewriter system and inventory of RE1. Leon's sections are action-packed and crank up the gameplay of RE4/RE5 to an 11. I've only played about an hour but I'm really excited to see what the rest of the game has to offer.

I really liked RE9, got 7 and 8 pretty cheap awhile back I need to play through. I'm a big fan of the old school ones.... these days when I game it's usually something co op I can use the controller on due to nerve damage and am currently in the process of the hell of getting insurance approval and tests done and blah blah blah to get a ganglion cyst cut out of the bottom of my wrist that's pressing on the ulnar nerve causing me pain if I play a KBM game for any extended amount of time, tried some Tarkov the other day for a bit with a buddy and it hurt. I really liked even vanilla Stalker Anomaly and got into the huge Stalker Gamma mod when it came to GOG with the one click install method, got a few dozen hours into it but am waiting to get this cyst out before I play it more.

.... It's not currently flared up but if it does again I'm tired of getting the run around and am probably just gonna go to the ER got them to drain it
