easymode

I've been looking from some fun stuff to read as a break from technical manuals and procedures. I figured why not fill the gaps in my D&D lore by reading some of S.A. Salvatore's books. I decided to start with the Cleric Quintet series, I recently finished the first book and I gotta say it was a fun read. I've been inspired to create a new character for a future D&D session, should I find the time. I've moved onto the second book, In Sylvan Shadows. I'm excited to see where things pick up from the first book.

Once I finish this series I think I'll pick up the Icewind Dale Trilogy, kinda curious to see if it has any crossover with the Icewind Dale game.

I haven't read a lot of S.A. Salvatore, but I have a few on the shelf. There are so many snobs who talk about fun as if it were bad... and I think they are missing out on one of the most important things in life. Fun is functional. Fun is good. Anyway, I might have to grab one of those and go through it. I remember thinking S.A. Salvatore was better at writing fight/action scenes than just about anyone.

Icewind Dale is one of my favorite settings and I actually liked the game better as a kid than Baldur's Gate. I think I have changed my mind now due to BG 2 having so much character, but I still like the frosty setting better. Let me know how the books are.

The first book is a little slow but it's setting the stage for the rest of the series. I really enjoyed a lot of the character to character interactions. Also I know having multiple plots stringing along can turn some folks off. I think there are 4-5 plots happening at the same time between the multiple characters so it can get to be a little much. Overall I enjoyed it enough to pick up the other two books. I'll certainly let you know how the second book is.

I'll have to add these to my list of books to read. I had read the Dragonlance books when I was much younger, but then read them again like 5 or 6 years ago. Those were fun little stories so I'm sure I'll also enjoy these!
